Mansfield District Council's Local Plan

Consultation Open – May to July 2025

Mansfield District Council is reviewing its Local Plan which is a document that will shape how our towns and villages grow over the next 20 years. This includes decisions on where new housing, jobs, infrastructure, and green spaces will go.

As part of this process, the council is asking for feedback from residents, local groups, and anyone with a stake in the future of Mansfield and Warsop. This is being done under Regulation 18 of the Town and Country Planning Regulations.

Why This Matters

The latest draft includes a long list of potential development sites, some of which are in or around Mansfield Woodhouse’s treasured green spaces. Your input now can influence which of these sites go forward and which are protected.

Have Your Say: 30 May – 13 July 2025

This is a critical opportunity for our community to shape the future. Comments received during this consultation will help inform the next stage of the plan, the Publication Draft (Regulation 19), before it’s submitted to the government for review.

How to Get Involved

Read the Draft Plan:  Available online via the council’s consultation portal, at the Civic Centre, and in local libraries during the consultation period. (Check opening times before visiting.)

What’s at Stake?

Without strong community input, valuable green spaces could be lost to large-scale developments. While the plan aims to meet future needs, it also must reflect local voices. Having an up-to-date plan helps protect against speculative and inappropriate development, but only if we help shape it.

REASONS TO OPPOSE

1. Inadequate road infrastructure: Our roads are already congested and riddled with potholes. Adding more housing will only make this worse.

2. Traffic and safety concerns: More vehicles mean more congestion, higher accident risks, and increased air pollution with serious health implications.

3. Insufficient school places: There are not enough education facilities to support a growing population.

4. Overstretched medical services: GP surgeries and hospitals are already under immense pressure.

5. Strain on sewage systems: Increased development risks overwhelming local infrastructure, leading to further pollution of our rivers and waterways.

6. Increased flood risk: Tarmacking over healthy soil reduces rain absorption, raising the risk of surface water flooding.

7. Loss of vital wildlife habitat: Development destroys ecosystems that many species rely on to survive.

8. Destruction of green space: Access to nature is proven to boost mental and physical wellbeing.
